Hello, I’m Hussein, a trainee solicitor in Birmingham and I’m here to guide you through the application process whether you are thinking of applying for a training contract, or a vacation placement or maybe both. But before we get to the nitty gritty I thought I would share a few of my experiences and pass on a few handy hints. The first thing to say is just how much I’ve got out of the scheme so far and how far my knowledge and skills have come and in a relatively short space of time.
Having made the I guess somewhat unconventional move from human rights law to commercial law I have been supported every inch of the way.I was determined to get to grips with the world of business and the trainee scheme has helped me to do just that. And my colleagues have been fantastic. There is a real sense of togetherness here something you don’t always find in law practices. And ambition, is in Clarke Willmott’s DNA so if you know what you want out of your legal career and you are not afraid of hard graft, you will be encouraged all the way. After all, the firm wants you to get as much out of the trainee solicitor scheme as you can.
But back to the business in hand. Basically you need to apply using the online application form, you will find a link at the bottom of this page. But before you start typing, there’s a few things worth bearing in mind starting with our name. Don’t whatever you do, spell it incorrectly. Strangely enough it’s something that really bugs us. We have a real thing for attention to detail here and it won’t help your cause if you can’t get our name right. And don’t rush your application, take your time, do your research and read it through when you are finished, and then read it again. It’s that celebrated Clarke Willmott attention to detail thing you see.
If you have any queries or questions about the application process, or for that matter anything to do with the training contract or vacation placements don’t hesitate to get in touch. Heather Cooper is our graduate recruitment manager and she will be only to happy to help. You will find her email address by clicking the ‘Tell Me More’ link. All that’s left for me to say is good luck and who knows, we might even meet again soon. Just watch this space.
Tips for your application
But before you start typing away, there are a few things worth bearing in mind. Starting, naturally, with our name. Clark Wilmot, we’re not. Make sure you spell our name correctly. And take your time and do your research. We’re sticklers for detail here and an application form littered with mistakes won’t help you.
